  5. Welcome to Painter Classic!
  6. This Read Me file contains important information about
  7. your new software. You don't have to read this
  8. information now, but after you've installed and looked
  9. around the program, review the following information.

  25. PAINTER CLASSIC'S INTERFACE
  26.  
  27. Painter Classic's interface is organized across a series
  28. of main menus and a set of floating palettes.  There are
  29. four main floating palettes: the Tools palette, Brushes
  30. palette, Art Materials palette and Controls palette.
  31. Utilize the User Guide and take the time to explore what
  32. each of these palettes can do.
  33.  
  34. WACOM(R) INTUOS(tm) TOOL ID(tm) IS SUPPORTED IN PAINTER CLASSIC
  35. With Tool ID you can attach any number of Intuos Pens to any
  36. number of Painter Classic brushes (one Intuos Pen can represent
  37. an oil brush, another Pen a pencil, and so forth).  If you want
  38. to change what Painter Classic brush an Intuos Pen is programmed
  39. to be, simply select a different Painter Classic brush with the
  40. tip of that Intuos Pen.  The Pen will remember that brush until
  41. a different Painter Classic brush is selected.  With a Wacom
  42. Intuos tablet system and Tool ID you can simulate a natural
  43. work environment and eliminate brush palettes to free up your
  44. screen area for drawing and painting.

  46. PAINTER CLASSIC'S BRUSHES
  47. It is the incredible Natural-Media(r) brush engine that
  48. separates the Painter family of products from all other
  49. graphics programs. If you spend a little time investigating
  50. how the brush engine works, Painter Classic will open up
  51. as the most incredible art program you have ever used.
  52.  
  53. There are six extra brush libraries on your CD.  They provide
  54. an enormous variety to the types of artwork you can create.
  55. Explore the CD and try these possibilities.
  56.  
  57. WACOM(r) INTUOS(tm) GRAPHICS TABLET SYSTEM BRUSHES FOR PAINTER CLASSIC
  58. In the two brush categories of Airbrush and Liquid, the use of
  59. the Wacom Intuos Airbrush "fingerwheel" has been implemented. The
  60. fingerwheel is used to adjust a specific parameter of a tool.
  61. The list below details what parameter of each tool is
  62. controlled by the fingerwheel (and any other parameter of
  63. control).

  65. Intuos Airbrush Tools (Total: 7)
  66. Feather Tip: Fingerwheel controls Opacity
  67. Thin Stroke: Fingerwheel controls Opacity
  68. Medium Stroke: Fingerwheel controls Opacity

  70. Variable Stroke: Fingerwheel controls Opacity; Tip controls Size

  85. NOTE: The standard pressure stylus will not work with brushes
  86. which have been fingerwheel enabled. With your Intous airbrush stylus
  87. click the Airbrush or Liquid icon in the custom palette to load the library
  88. equipped with these brushes. When the standard pressure stylus is used
  89. again, Painter Classic will detect the new tool and will automatically switch
  90. to the corresponding library.

  92. SEAMLESS TILING
  93. Seamless tiling makes Web projects a snap with an easy star
  94. switch right on the document window.  You can utilize an
  95. existing image or develop your own within a small area,
  96. then repeat it perfectly over the entire Web page.

  98. IMAGE HOSES AND CLONING
  99. The image hose paints with a variety of changing images.
  100. It is a brush that you can load with any of the libraries
  101. you find on the CD.  Experiment with the images and the
  102. variations you can use.
  103.  
  104. NOZZLES
  105. The Image Hose Nozzles that are included on this CD-ROM work
  106. differently with different variants.  Experiment to see the
  107. effects.
  108.  
  109. TEAR-OFF TOOLS
  110. Don't overlook the new Tear-off Tools. Grab any brush
  111. (like the Pencil) and drag it off the palette. Presto.
  112. You've created a custom palette. You can drag any
  113. of the tools onto a custom palette.
  114.  
  115. SCRIPTING
  116. Scripts allow you to record every action you make in Painter
  117. Classic. Scripts are similar to video tape.  You can record
  118. and play them back at any time from the Script palette.
  119.  
  120. The recording process is simply a matter of clicking record,
  121. then Stop and then naming the script.  When you're done, the
  122. script appears in the palette.

  124. To erase a script, select delete from pop-up menu at the
  125. bottom of the palette. Select the script you want deleted and
  126. click delete.

  130. ONLINE USER GUIDE

  132. The User Guide for Painter Classic can be accessed from the
  133. Help pull-down menu in Painter Classic. It is provided to you 
  134. as an Adobe(r) Acrobat(r) Portable Document Format (PDF) file.
  135. If you do not already have Acrobat Reader installed, you may
  136. install it from the Painter Classic software CD.

  140. COMMON PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS
  141. ----------------------------
  142. - Painter Classic only supports the Photoshop 3.0 plug-in API
  143.   (not 4.0). Plug-ins, like Alien Skin Eye Candy, which
  144.   require the Photoshop 4.0 filter API will not work
  145.   with Painter.
  146.  
  147. - Several Adobe Photoshop 4.0 plug-ins are designed to work
  148.   only with Photoshop. They will appear in the Painter menus,
  149.   but will not run.

  153. Manual ERRATA

  155. - Page 28 indicates that files can be dropped from the Finder
  156. into Painter Classic. This specific feature is not supported,
  157. but has been replaced by two alternatives:
  158. 1) Use File Open feature within Painter to access files from
  159.   other sources or
  160. 2) Drag and drop from another application into Painter Classic.
